Confronting President Bill Clinton is generally not smart if you want to walk away with your pride intact — a lesson Republicans should have learned after failing to successfully impeach him. Unfortunately, one Donald Trump supporter didn’t get the memo and decided to challenge the former President at one of his wife’s campaign events in Riviera Beach, Florida, on Monday.
A man holding a “The Silent Majority Stands With Trump” sign confronted President Clinton about the couple’s Foundation accepting money from Donald Trump. While he probably thought that this would stagger Clinton, the protester very quickly learned otherwise. The crowd began to boo but, unlike Trump, Clinton did not order them to attack the misguided, sign-bearing gentleman.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Clinton said. “I want you to hear this.”
“Before he became a Republican,” Clinton continued, “or when he was–“
“You took his money!” the protester interrupted.
“I certainly did,” Clinton responded as the crowd cheered. “I took his money for my foundation where I used it better than he’s using it now, I guarantee you.”
“I remember when he called me to say how terrible the Republicans were being to me and Hillary and how unfair they were and what a brilliant job Hillary did as a Senator,” Clinton recalled. “And by the way, a lot of Republicans thought that, which is why they spent the last three years trying to tear her down.”
Tail between his legs and a yellow puddle on the floor where he once stood, the TrumpFan quickly made his exit. Not a single person attacked him, shoved him, punched him, or committed the sort of acts of violence that have become typical at Donald Trump’s rallies. The Clinton supporters in attendance simply let him leave. But Bill wasn’t done with him yet:
“If you want to build a wall along the Rio Grande and send 13 million back, then you should follow him like Moses into the Promised Land.”
The crowd erupted into raucous laughter as the Trump protester’s last ounce of pride left his body.
This is how you handle a protester. While expressing a dissenting viewpoint on one of Donald Trump’s events will almost certainly lead to bodily injury — especially if you are black or Hispanic — Clinton handled the situation the way it should have been handled: with humor, dignity, and class.
