During the Commander In Chief Forum on Wednesday evening, Donald Trump proved once and for all that he has no business receiving intelligence briefings. Democrats have said all along that the Republican presidential nominee does not have the self-control required to keep his mouth shut about such things and we were right.
Trump told Matt Lauer that he was “shocked” by what he has learned in his intelligence briefings:
What I did learn is that our leadership, Barack Obama, did not follow what our experts and our truly — when they call it intelligence, it’s there for a reason — what our experts said to do. And I was very, very surprised. In almost every instance, and I could tell, I have pretty good with the body language, I could tell, they were not happy. Our leaders did not follow what they were recommending.
First of all, intelligence officers have been trained to control themselves and not reveal anything with their body language. The idea that Donald Trump could ascertain any information by these officials’ “body language” is utterly ridiculous. When asked about Trump’s remarks on Wednesday, Timothy Barrett, spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which briefs the candidates refused to comment–but Hillary Clinton was more than happy to call Trump out.
During a press conference on Thursday, the Democratic nominee called Trump’s comments “totally inappropriate and undisciplined”:
I would never comment on any aspect of an intelligence briefing I received.
Of course, she wouldn’t and neither would anyone else with any common sense. Unfortunately, common sense does not grow in Donald Trump’s garden and he has absolutely no control over what comes out of his mouth. He doesn’t see any problems with talking about what he learns in those meetings. Furthermore, it is obvious that the “information” he claims to have received with speaking to intelligence officers is a lie. A U.S. official told NBC that intelligence officials do not give presidents policy advice, they just give them the information they need to make policy decisions on their own.
So, basically, in addition to being “inappropriate and undisciplined,” Trump has proven once again that he is nothing but a liar.
