Conservatives are having fun celebrating the fact that Republicans control all three branches of government for the first time since 1928. There’s just one problem.
It’s true that Republicans made history on Election Night last week by winning the presidency and keeping control of the Congress. And because of that, and the fact that Republicans have viciously and without precedent blocked President Obama’s nominee, they will likely keep control of the Supreme Court.
But what Republicans forgot is that 1929 happened after their last such victory, resulting in an economic collapse called the Great Depression that ushered in severe hardship, fascism, homelessness, and a paralyzed government that didn’t really try to do anything about it.
The Young Conservatives learned this the hard way this week when they called for conservatives everywhere to “party like it’s 1928” on Twitter complete with a beer emoji. That was a mistake, too. Because Prohibition was still in effect and nobody could legally drink alcohol.

And Twitter users had so much fun mocking them.
