According to two sheriff’s deputies from North Carolina, they were targeted by employees over the weekend when the workers served them spicy food at a fast food restaurant.
A Facebook post by the wife of a Cleveland County deputy tells of her husband’s alleged experience, according to WBTV.
“As they walked up to place their orders, the boys in the back cooking the food started yelling at them and calling them names,” the wife wrote about Zaxby’s restaurant in Shelby, though she provided no evidence this is true. According to the wife, the two uniformed deputies ignored the workers and continued placing their order.
“I have pretty much kept my mouth shut, publicly, about the status of our country these days…but enough is enough!” she continued. “It is tough enough to watch my husband put on his uniform and go out into a world full of hate towards cops, all while I sit home and worry if he will return home safely. But today just put the icing on the cake.”
“Years ago, this profession was respected, it was honored. Now to get ridiculed, to be a target, to possibly get shot at, for little pay. What’s the motivation to be a police officer other than do it because your heart’s in it to help the community,” Cleveland County Captain Joel Shores said.
“If you’re not ready to be ridiculed, law enforcement is not the job for you, especially in today’s world,” he said.
“We don’t want to shoot no one. We don’t want to pepper spray,” Shores continued. “We don’t want to taser, that’s not what we wake up to do. We wake up to protect.”
A spokesperson for Zaxby’s said the restaurant is independently owned and operated by a franchisee and that an internal investigation was launched with the company’s management team. Zaxby’s said they are “working quickly to resolve this issue.”
“It is our goal to always provide every guest with exceptional service,” officials said.
Zaxby’s Facebook page is inundated with comments, including Randy Webb, who wrote, “Fire their disrespectful black asses IMMEDIATELY.” (Republican caps, his)
Zaxby’s is known for their spicy chicken wings. If it was a prank, the entire restaurant chain should not be held accountable because the officers ate spicy chicken. And, as we know, entire police forces do not want to be held accountable after the public witnesses two men being murdered on video by the cops. It goes both ways, but one is about chicken, the other is about lives lost. Still yet, there are some very good cops on the police force and they may not like spicy food.
