Donald Trump just went full-on fascist, telling his supporters that the election should be canceled and he should just be appointed President of the United States.
Speaking to a crowd during a rally in Toledo, Ohio, Trump compared his tax plan to Hillary Clinton’s. He subsequently deduced that she is such a sh*tty candidate that the presidency should just be bestowed upon him. Screw the election.
“And just thinking to myself right now, we should just cancel the election and just give it to Trump, right? What are we even having it for? What are we having it for?” he asked. “Her policies are so bad. Boy, do we have a big difference.”
There is simply no other way to describe his latest comments without noting that they are dripping with fascism. Trump doesn’t want to be the president of a democracy. He wants to be a dictator.
The GOP nominee has been claiming that the election is rigged as a result of his plummeting poll numbers. His dangerous remarks about “voter fraud,” which happens to be virtually nonexistent by the way, have convinced his supporters that if he loses, it is because the election was unfair. Thus he is eroding faith in Amerca’s electoral process and chipping away at the very foundation of our democracy.
His supporters have eaten up his “rigged election” bullsh*t hook, line, and sinker. Some are now even threatening an armed “revolution” if Clinton wins the presidency in November. Now, Trump is suggesting the election just be called off altogether so he can be proclaimed president. Except, like I said before, he doesn’t actually want to be a president at all.
Just like his calls for “the Second Amendment people” to “do something” about his opponent and his claims of a rigged election, Trump’s words are dangerous. The people his words inspire are dangerous. And most of all, Trump himself is dangerous.
