The first video footage of Keith Lamont Scott has surfaced and what is shows is horrifying. But there is also one very very important thing that seems to be missing in this video.
Filmed by his wife, Rakeyia, the cell phone footage is heart wrenching and extremely difficult to watch. As she films, you can hear her shouting to officers that her husband absolutely does not have a gun and begging them not to shoot him. She tries desperately to explain to the officers that her husband is disabled and suffers from a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). She tells them that he has just “taken his medicine” and poses no threat to police officers or anyone else.
Her cries were in vain because moments later the deadly shots ring out. The victim’s wife runs closer, while police shout at her not to come towards them, and she sees her husband lying on the street in a pool of blood.
He better not be f*cking dead, he better not be f*cking dead,” she yells at them. “He better live, he better live!”
We all know that tragically, her husband would die on that pavement. However, what this video doesn’t show is every bit as shocking as what it does show.
I invite you to watch the video for yourself, here. It is difficult to watch, but keep an eye out for what you don’t see.
The entire police narrative hinges on the fact that Keith was armed, causing them to fear for their lives. Although they admit that the gun is not visible in any of the police videos filmed by dash cams or body cams, they claim that the gun he dropped as he fell to the ground after the fatal shots were fired is proof that he was armed and threatening officers.
But where is that gun in the video shot by his wife? If the gun fell out of his hands when he was shot and collapsed on the ground, where is it? If it isn’t there in this video, when and how did it appear?
