Politico reports that former President George H.W. Bush is defying his party and voting for the most qualified candidate for President, even if she is a Democrat. Former Maryland Lieutenant Governor and daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy, Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, posted a photo with our 41st President with a rather surprising caption:
No, you don’t need your eyes checked. Well, maybe you do, but you’re probably reading that correctly: “The President hold me he’s voting for Hillary!!”
The 92-year-old former president himself has remained silent on the issue, but Townsend told Politico that he informed her that he made his preference known. “That’s what he said,” she told the publication. But a spokesman for Bush was a little more tight-lipped about for whom he is voting:
“The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in some 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.”
The Bush family’s disdain for Trump is well-known by now. While former First Lady Laura Bush has not overtly endorsed Clinton, she has come out against Trump — though not as strongly as her mother, Barbara, who says that Trump acts like a “comedian or something” rather than a serious presidential candidate, outright blasting the GOP nominee for his treatment of women in general (and specifically Fox News’ Megyn Kelly). She even went so far as to warn a journalist not to “get in [Trump’s] firing line” and calling Trump’s position as nominee “incomprehensible.”
Even war criminal George W. Bush has indirectly denounced Trump’s “isolationism, nativism and protectionism.”
While the Bush family has been taking an “I’m not touching that with a 10 foot pole” approach to this election, it’s pretty clear that no matter what Clinton seems to be the person they consider to be the superior option. Be sure to join Bush Sr. in voting BLUE in November.
