You remember watching Brave Sir Donald Trump bravely run away from what he and his idiot followers thought was a threat to his life? Well it turns out that the guy was a Republican, there was no gun (no matter how many times Trump’s allies tweet that there was), and the guy was just holding up a sign he printed off the internet that reads “Republicans Against Trump.”
Yes, yes, I know — someone in the sea of idiots, morons, and other assorted stupid people screamed “gun,” but that seems to have just been an attempt to use the Secret Service to cause the man (who was released swiftly after it was revealed that he was just holding a sign) harm — to punish him for peacefully exercising his First Amendment rights.
Austyn Crites says that in the confusion that ensued after someone shouted that he had a gun, the crowd used the opportunity to kick, punch, and choke him — all because he feels that Trump is “a textbook version of a dictator and a fascist.”
Now, Trump surely knew what was truly going on after he was ushered offstage by Secret Service, only to return almost instantly (Secret Service would not allow him to come back out if there was a real threat, right?). Nevertheless, he was quick to lend to the assassination rumors as soon as he stepped back onstage:
“Nobody said it was going to be easy but we will never be stopped. We will never be stopped.”
Crites says he moved to the front of the crowd with his deadly piece of paper before silently holding it aloft so The Donald could see that not all Republicans are complete idiots. “I had a sign that said ‘Republicans against Trump’. It is a sign that you can just print off online,” he told The Guardian. “And then all of a sudden people next to me are starting to get violent; they’re grabbing at my arm, trying to rip the sign out of my hand.”Crites says that it “looked like” Trump was pointing at him, trying to “instigate something.” Then, of course, someone yelled “gun” and chaos ensued.
Crites says that it “looked like” Trump was pointing at him, trying to “instigate something.” The crowd, the protester says, began to get violent — Then, of course, someone yelled “gun” after he was already on the ground being choked by Trump fans and chaos ensued.
Despite the attack, Crites says he bears no animosity toward the crowd — his “fellow Americans” — and instead solely blames Trump’s “hate rhetoric” for turning them “into animals.”
“My heart still aches for what this nation could potentially do by electing him. That hurts me much more than any of this violence,” he adds. “The fact that I got beat up today, that’s just showing what he’s doing to his crowds. But I just want people to understand I’m going to be OK, but now what’s more important is if the country going to be OK? So do your part and vote.”
Can you imagine if Hillary Clinton had run offstage like a Republican being confronted with facts over a dude with a sign? Trump would mention it every second of every day well past the election. In any case, this is what happens when you spend all your time being afraid of your own shadow.

And for a bit of comic relief, he’s Trump running offstage to escape the dangerous piece of paper:
