Satire can be boatloads of fun. Who doesn’t love spending some time perusing The Onion or scrolling through Christians for Michele Bachmann? There’s nothing quite like taking a break from reality to enjoy a good spoof.
The only thing more satisfying than good satire is watching people fall for it. A well-written article can have a serious impact on someone who is uninformed on an issue. Satire that good is usually difficult to spot.
But then there’s not so good satire. It’s usually poorly written, unimaginative and sticks out like a sore thumb. One Canadian satire site that does just that, however, has learned how to pull in the dumbest, most gullible crowd: The American conservative. Here’s one of their latest in all its glory:
It’s absolutely ridiculous. Nobody with half a brain would believe it. President Obama taught constitutional law. If there were a way for him to stay in office another term most of us would have an “Obama 2016” bumper sticker on our cars. The worst part about the article isn’t even the bogus-as-can-be headline or mediocre-at-best writing, it’s the source:
Yes, that’s right. The article comes from a publication out of Vancouver that abbreviates to “The B.S. Journal.” Not only that but they have an about link that is fairly specific about what they post:
That about settles it, doesn’t it? The B.S. Journal is hereby bullshit, please treat it as such. So, then, exactly what kind of imbeciles would fall for this nonsense and share it as truth? These kind:
Surprise, surprise…it’s a Donald Trump support site. They’ve managed to not only fall for absolute absurdity, they’ve shared it nearly 4500 times. With over 3000 comments, you would think you’d be able to find a plethora of comments from people with enough sense to understand that this couldn’t possibly be true. Unfortunately for America, that’s just not the case. These are the top comments listed:
Look at the likes on those idiotic statements. Hundreds of them. You have to go 6 posts in to find someone with half a brain, but even after it’s pointed out the stupidity continues:
This is actually happening. In a real Facebook thread. With actual people. It’s almost unbelievable and yet there it is in black and white. They exist.
Not only do these people exist, these people vote. They will be out in full-force November 8th to cast their vote for racism, hate, homophobia, xenophobia and fascism. They’re already volunteering to “police the polls” to make sure there isn’t any “funny business” going on, meaning they intend to harass anyone with skin one shade darker than pale white.
Suddenly them falling for something so stupid is slightly less humorous.
