Republicans have been trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act since it was signed into law seven years ago. And now, with Trump about to be president and a majority in both the House and Senate, their goal of ripping away the health insurance of millions could finally become a reality. John Legend took to Twitter to shame the conservatives who are dead set on leaving 30 million people uninsured, and it was absolutely perfect.
On Wednesday afternoon, Legend tweeted out that repealing the ACA and leaving millions of Americans without insurance is “unconscionable.” He noted that not having health insurance means that you are quite literally one serious illness away from going bankrupt. Even considering doing away with Obamacare, he says, is especially abhorrent considering the fact that the United States is the “richest country in the world.”
Call me a Hollywood elitist, but I think it’s unconscionable that the richest country in the world would go back to bankrupting the sick

Mike Pence said earlier in the day that Donald Trump plans to go after Obamacare immediately. Their plan to repeal the healthcare law will consist of two parts, he explained. According to Pence, Trump will pass executive orders to repeal the ACA, possibly on day one. But he also said Republican lawmakers will have to toe the line when it comes to legislation.
Legend’s tweet came after Senate Republicans took the first step towards stripping millions of people of their healthcare coverage by passing a resolution that officially begins the process of repealing the ACA. The legislation passed on Wednesday instructs the House to have a repeal bill ready by Jan. 27, just one week after Trump will be sworn into office.
The Grammy Award-winning singer wasn’t afraid to call out Republicans for their bullsh*t. All they are worried about is sticking it to the first black president and they couldn’t care less how many poor sick people they kill in the process. Bravo, Mr. Legend. Bravo.
