In a devastating editorial, the Dallas Morning News eviscerated Donald Trump and the Republican Party while endorsing Hillary Clinton.
On Wednesday, the major Texas newspaper threw their support behind the Democratic nominee and Hillary Clinton became the first Democrat in more than 75 years to get that particular endorsement, which has gone to Republicans in nearly 20 straight elections.
“There is only one serious candidate on the presidential ballot in November,” the editorial begins. “We recommend Hillary Clinton.”
We’ve been critical of Clinton’s handling of certain issues in the past. But unlike Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton has experience in actual governance, a record of service and a willingness to delve into real policy. Resume vs. resume, judgment vs. judgment, this election is no contest.
The Dallas Morning News pointed out that Hillary has far more experience in government than Trump does and has a record of working with Republicans to reach consensus on legislation. They also cited her experience as Secretary of State and the fact that hundreds of Republican foreign policy experts back her and have named her the best person for the job when it comes to fighting ISIS.
“Clinton has made mistakes and displayed bad judgment,” the paper continued in reference to Hillary’s emails, “but her errors are plainly in a different universe than her opponent’s.”
And then the Dallas Morning News went on to slam the Republican nominee.
Trump’s values are hostile to conservatism. He plays on fear — exploiting base instincts of xenophobia, racism and misogyny — to bring out the worst in all of us, rather than the best. His serial shifts on fundamental issues reveal an astounding absence of preparedness. And his improvisational insults and midnight tweets exhibit a dangerous lack of judgment and impulse control.
And then concluded that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate in this race and should be elected in November.
She is the candidate more likely to keep our nation safe, to protect American ideals and to work across the aisle to uphold the vital domestic institutions that rely on a competent, experienced president.
Hillary Clinton has spent years in the trenches doing the hard work needed to prepare herself to lead our nation. In this race, at this time, she deserves your vote.
This is a HUGE endorsement that could definitely cause more Republican and independent voters to support Hillary’s campaign, but it could also have an effect in Texas. While the state will most likely vote for Trump on Election Day, it could end up being tighter than Republicans have seen in decades which would be their worst nightmare because if the state ever turns blue the GOP is finished.
