Alleged journalist Megyn Kelly sat on news so important that it could have changed this election. Now we are stuck with Trump because of her irresponsibility.
Donald Trump constantly accused Hillary Clinton of being given debate questions in advance as part of his claim that the election is rigged.
He made a big deal out of it and threw a hissy fit.
But once again, it looks like Trump is nothing more than a hypocrite who didn’t mind leaked debate questions as long as he was the one getting them. And we know this because Kelly admits the detail in her new book.
As it turns out, Trump received a debate question prior to the first presidential debate, which Kelly helped moderate. In other words, Fox News warned Trump in advance about what he would be asked.
According to the New York Times,
The day before the first presidential debate, Mr. Trump was in a lather again, Ms. Kelly writes. He called Fox executives, saying he’d heard that her first question “was a very pointed question directed at him.” This disconcerted her, because it was true: It was about his history of using disparaging language about women.
She doesn’t speculate where the leak came from. (She reports. You decide.) But that’s another unambiguous takeaway from this book: Parts of Fox — or at the very least, Roger Ailes, the network’s chairman until July, when he was given the boot after several allegations of sexual harassment were made against him — seemed to be nakedly colluding with the Republican presidential nominee.
And there is much more to this story as it is possible that Trump or someone in his corner tried to prevent Kelly from showing up to moderate the debate.
Her story becomes more byzantine. On the day of the debate, Ms. Kelly writes, she woke up feeling great. Then an overzealous, suspiciously enthusiastic driver picked her up to take her to the convention center. He insisted on getting her coffee, though she’d repeatedly declined his offer. Once it was in her hand, she drank it. And within 15 minutes, she was violently ill, vomiting so uncontrollably that it was unclear if she’d be able to go on and help moderate that evening. It was so bad that she kept a trash pail beneath her desk throughout the debate, just in case.
Ms. Kelly never says outright that someone tried to poison her. (A stomach bug was going around, she notes.) But the episode spooked her enough that she shared it later with Roger Ailes and a lawyer friend of his. Foul play? Again: She reports. You decide.
This isn’t exactly out of the question. After all, Donald Trump has been feuding with the Fox News host since she grilled him about how his past treatment of women during the primaries. And Trump is known for being obsessed with getting revenge. He is also a man of means and can pay people to do things he wants them to do.
Megyn Kelly just lost any last shred of credibility as a journalist she may have had because of this. She should have reported this news when it happened instead of waiting to publish it in her book. This is the kind of news Fox News certainly would not have kept secret if it had been about Hillary Clinton.
This just proves without a doubt that Fox News is the propaganda machine of the Republican Party and they are not interested in being fair and balanced. Megyn Kelly should be ashamed of herself and she owes the American people a public apology and a resignation for keeping this information from them in the midst of the most consequential elections in our history. It’s disgraceful.
