Over the course of President Barack Obama’s presidency, we’ve always seen him present this calm and relaxed demeanor in the face of provocations (usually by conservatives) that would have most of us tearing our hair out. And Obama’s laid back attitude has inspired many impersonations and comedy sketches, poking fun at the Commander-in-Chief (all of which he’s always taken in good humor, unlike some people we know).
But the comedy duo of Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele came up with a different idea. They created a character that expressed the inner frustration and “anger” that Obama must keep in check on a day-to-day basis to do his job effectively, and his name was Luther, better known as Obama’s “Anger Translator.”
The character became an instant hit, as Peele would play the calm and reserved President Obama and Key would play the role of his eternally infuriated alter ego who would translate Obama’s real thoughts and feelings.
Unfortunately, with Key and Peele’s show ending in only its fifth season and Obama’s time in office coming quickly to a close as well, many Key and Peele fans felt that they needed to do at least one more sketch showing Luther’s reaction to President-elect Donald Trump’s election. Well, the duo obliged and they didn’t disappoint.
The scene starts off with President Obama played by Peele, addressing the nation for the final time. He mentions that he invited Luther to join him provided his anger translator could stay on his “best behavior.” Luther gives himself a little pep talk encouraging himself to “go against every natural instinct in your body.”
That seems to work until Obama mentions the fact that America’s “voted for a new president.”
And that’s when Luther loses it.
There’s a moment of silence before Luther screams, “Trump?!”
Obama: “Here we go…”
Luther jumps up and down on Obama’s chair throwing an epic tantrum.
How did this happen, man!?” Luther shouted while kicking a Trump piñata. “Y’all voted for the dude who’s going to make America hate again! Don’t you understand this is how The Hunger Games starts?”
Throughout the sketch, Obama keeps his composure as Luther rips Trump and his supporters to shreds. Eventually, the anger translator leaves half of America with a poignant message of healing and reconciliation along with a special message for the incoming president.
Good luck with your health care, assholes. I’m out,” Luther said in the close-out. “I got my eyes on you, pussy-grabber.”

Hopefully, this will not be the last we see of Key and Peele’s Anger Translator as the next four years are guaranteed to give most sane Americans quite a few things to be pissed about.
