We really hope Donald Trump is paying his staff well — it has to be hard to go out and lie and deny reality every single day, putting your face and name on the line like that, it had better be well worth it. Take, for instance, one of Trump’s top advisors who was badly embarrassed by a CNN host today after he tried to pull off his “nothing is wrong everything is fine” schtick and got rocked for it.
CNN host Brianna Keilar was asking Trump’s advisor Michael Cohen about the recent shakeup in the campaign when it was announced this morning that Kellyanne Conway and Stephen Bannon, CEO of Breitbart News, would be assuming the role of campaign manager, replacing Paul Manafort. Cohen and the campaign vehemently deny the move this morning was a shake-up because Manafort was re-routed to serve as chair of the Washington D.C. campaign headquarters, rather than be fired, but it’s entirely obvious that the campaign is starting to worry and are changing management in order to save the sinking ship.
When Cohen was asked about the shake-up, he denied it outright, deflecting the question to Clinton’s campaign, and the following hilarious conversation ensued:
Keilar: You say it’s not a shake-up, but you guys are down.
Cohen: Says who? Says who?
Keilar: Polls. Most of them. All of them?
Cohen: Says who?
Keilar: Polls. I just told you, I answered your question.
Cohen: Which polls?
Keilar: All of them.
Cohen: Okay. And your question is?
Keilar went on to make the case that the campaign was likely worried about poll numbers and so they were making some “adjustments,” and asking why the expansion is necessary at this point in the game.
Cohen, of course, exclaimed that Trump will win, and this latest “expansion” in the campaign will allow him to stay true to who he is.
Things are so bad that Trump’s spox have zero wiggle room now that their nominee is failing so abysmally they can’t even make the case that it’s just the “liberal” polls that show them down, or just the elitist media lying and rigging the election — they’re failing in swing state polls, all major polls, even Breitbart tried to “unskew” a poll and still came up with Hillary Clinton ahead, and we’re well out of post-convention bump territory. The polls are not looking good for Trump, it’s a reality the campaign is going to have to face, and by trying to squirm away from that fact, they look like a bunch of hapless morons.
And we’re enjoying every minute of it.
