The Russians are officially trying to involve themselves in our election process to help their buddy Donald Trump.
In a move designed to humiliate the United States because of the Republican nominee’s claims about the election being “rigged” in favor of Hillary Clinton, the Russian government formally sought to send officials to serve as “election monitors” only months after Trump first called for his supporters to become poll watchers.
The request was officially denied by the State Department and three states denied Russian requests at the state level.
According to USA Today,
The bid was sharply rebuffed by the State Department, and one state election official threatened criminal action if Russian monitors showed up, according to state-controlled Izvestia daily and broadcaster RT.
Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana had various reasons for denying access to the polls by Russian officials, citing state law as the top reason.
A spokeswoman for Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler, who received a request to allow Russian monitors, called it a ‘propaganda ploy.'”
“We’ve allowed observers from overseas in the past from other countries, never from Russia,” Meg Casper said. She added that the FBI and Department of Homeland Security also ‘told us not to do this.'”
That’s probably because Russia has been hacking into our email system in recent months, targeting the DNC in particular, which gave Donald Trump some ammunition to use against his opponent.
Trump enjoys a close relationship with Russian businessmen who have close ties to Vladimir Putin. Trump is also endorsed by Russia and has the support of Russian state media.
In fact, Trump has made several overtures to Russia, including when he talked about fundamentally weakening NATO by pulling U.S. support, which would give Russia an opportunity to flex its military muscles to take over some Eastern European countries. Trump adviser Carter Page suggested earlier this year that Trump could lift economic sanctions placed on Russia since 2014, which would help some of his Russian business buddies. Trump and his team also successfully strong-armed the GOP into ditching the party platform condemning Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine and the GOP’s support of assisting Ukraine against Putin.
All of this seems to indicate that Trump would be Putin’s puppet should he win the presidency.
Trump is literally embarrassing the United States by claiming that our elections are “rigged” and his rhetoric is giving nations like Russia the opportunity to troll us because we often monitor elections in countries like Russia that have a history of voter fraud.
Trump’s mockery of our democratic process must come to an end before it does even more damage than it has already. If he refuses to accept the results on Election Day he could throw the nation into chaos and create a constitutional crisis that would humiliate us and tarnish our reputation around the world.
And that’s why Trump should be harshly rejected by the people on November 8th, just as harshly as the State Department rejected Russia’s requests.
