Donald Trump held his first press conference since the election and he did what he does best: he lied through his teeth to suck up to Vladimir Putin.
The first question Trump was asked dealt with the Russian hacking of the DNC and RNC during the campaign. And of course, Trump just couldn’t tell the truth. After defending himself against the golden shower allegations (which wasn’t even the question), he did finally concede that Russia was “probably” the one behind the hack of the DNC. But then he said that they did not succeed in hacking into the RNC.
According to the New York Times, intelligence agencies have a “high confidence” that both the DNC and RNC were hacked, but only information pertaining to the Democrats were released. This is part of the reason they are convinced Russia was trying to help Trump win.
American intelligence agencies have concluded with “high confidence” that Russia acted covertly in the latter stages of the presidential campaign to harm Hillary Clinton’s chances and promote Donald J. Trump, according to senior administration officials.
They based that conclusion, in part, on another finding — which they say was also reached with high confidence — that the Russians hacked the Republican National Committee’s computer systems in addition to their attacks on Democratic organizations, but did not release whatever information they gleaned from the Republican networks.
And yet, Trump can stand up there in front of the world and lie his ass off without blinking an eye. Trump insists that Russia tried to hack into the RNC, but failed because of their great “hacking defenses.” Because who cares that a senior intelligence official has said they “now have high confidence that they hacked the D.N.C. and the R.N.C., and conspicuously released no documents” from the Republican committee.
