It’s no secret that some of Donald Trump’s cabinet picks are highly controversial, and with good reason. First, we have for the Attorney General post Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, who was deemed too racist to be confirmed as a federal judge during the Reagan Administration. We also have Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, who is quite friendly with Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin. There are others as well, of course. So, what does Team Trump do in order to keep the American people and the news media from focusing on these picks? Why, they ram them all down our throats at once, that’s what.
Think Progress editor Jared Legum pointed this fact out on Twitter:
This is what you do if you have something to hide.

Legum’s information on what Trump is up to comes by way of Garance Franke-Ruta of Yahoo! News:

So, in other words, the GOP is planning to get these confirmations done by doing exactly what Trump did to win the election: Overwhelming the news media and the public with so much information at once that no one person or thing seems all that bad, thus preventing any sort of uproar or blowback that could have real effects and derail any one confirmation.
In addition to the six hearings, there will be Trump’s very first press availability since July, along with other business Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will want to get done. Of course, all of this will be done under the guise of rolling up their sleeves and quickly getting to work for the American people. In actuality, though, it’s just a shady, corrupt tactic to keep Democrats from digging into the past and current affairs, positions, and actions of Trump’s cabinet nominees, and keeping that information from the public until after the confirmations, when it will be far too late.
This is a crooked, shady, deeply corrupt way of operating, and the GOP should be ashamed of itself for doing it. Then again, they’re Republicans, and therefore are constrained by nothing.
