Donald Trump has long had a contentious relationship with the press. Now that Buzzfeed News has published leaked raw intelligence documents about potentially compromising information Russian intelligence may have on him, Trump is, of course, furious. During his first press conference as the president-elect, Trump called Buzzfeed, quote, a “pile of garbage” for publishing a report critical of him:

Then, he went after CNN, and called their reporting on the report done by Buzzfeed “fake news,” and refused to take questions from a CNN reporter:

The free press has never been more important. We now have an incoming president who doesn’t know how to take criticism at all, and, further, is threatening the news organizations who dare to report on him and reports of his potential scandals and wrongdoing. Trump is literally going after the First Amendment here.
The media is the Fourth Estate. They hold the powerful accountable, and now we have a thin-skinned bully about to be the most powerful man in the world. That bully is one Donald J. Trump, and he is dangerous as hell. He has already sown distrust for the media amongst his cult-like legion of supporters, and now he is using the bully pulpit of the White House to continue his bullying of these people for simply doing their jobs. Further, he is doing the same with what is arguably the most important apparatus in American politics and national security – our esteemed intelligence agencies.
This is how Nazi Germany started, folks. It didn’t start with camps. It started with othering people who are different. It started with attacking the press and governmental norms. That is where we are now, and it will only get worse once Trump takes office. Remember who we are, America. We are not this. #RESIST.
