Just hours before Trump is set to arrive at Hofstra University for his debate with Hillary Clinton, his spokesperson told Fox News that he won’t use conventional debate preparation routines:
Donald Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says the Republican nominee skipped mock debate preparation in advance of tonight’s showdown with Hillary Clinton because he’s more focused on studying and discussing the issues.
Huckabee Sanders explained on “America’s Newsroom” that Trump does things his way and he’s more concerned with being himself tonight.
“He’s not a poll-tested, scripted robot like Hillary Clinton,” she said.
Trump being himself has been a top concern for Republicans who have tried time and time again to get him to settle into more conventional preparation methods. His spokesperson’s statement, which she tried to spin into something positive, is proof that Trump refuses to listen to those who know better and will be sorely unprepared for tonight’s debate.
Trump has decided to turn his energy to pointing out that Hillary Clinton is “absent” from the campaign trail, which everyone knows is because she’s deeply entrenched in preparations for the debate. Trump even scuttled off to Roanoke, surely to the chagrin of his prep team, to stroke his ego with a last-minute rally.
The bottom line is, Trump believes he’ll be able to pull off what he did in the GOP debates. He’ll be loud, obnoxious, insulting and ignorant. He’ll talk about how great he’s doing in the polls in IOWA while Clinton mops the floor with him on policy issues.
None of that will matter to Trump supporters, who would vote for him even if he were to unzip his human suit and show the demon living inside of it, but there will be a lot of independents out there looking for answers to the questions that concern them. Trump will have none.
