While Donald Trump is boasting about how “smart” he is for avoiding paying taxes and how he understands “the tax laws better than almost anyone,” his old accountant is setting the record straight.
I know our complex tax laws better than anyone who has ever run for president and am the only one who can fix them. #failing@nytimes

Trump never did his own taxes — his accountant did.
Trump’s former accountant, Jack Mitnick, who clearly didn’t sign a non-disclosure, told Inside Edition that it was actually him who did all tax preparation. He said:
“He never saw the product until it was presented to him for signature.”
Trump will likely tell you differently, and maybe he’ll even call Mitnick crazy, but it’s a safe bet to trust the guy who actually crunched the numbers on Trump’s behalf.
Mitnick even said that Trump’s return losses were so severe that the number had to be manually typed in with a typewriter because the number was so big.
Ouch. That hurts. You can almost taste the orange tears.
When Mitnick spoke with NBC News, he said:
“As far as I know, and this only goes through 1996, he didn’t understand the [tax] code, nor would he have had the time or patience to learn the provisions.”
“He was interested in the bottom line, not the detail. Staff under my supervision did his returns – he had no involvement in the preparation… He knew that we would produce the lowest possible tax for him within the law. And he never went into the details. He understood that he had to rely on us to generate the returns, that it was beyond his knowledge.”
So, really, Trump isn’t only a liar when it comes to his returns, he’s woefully ignorant when it comes to how they are actually prepared. I’m sure signing his name to the bottom takes a lot of hard work, though. It’s tough to wrap those tiny fingers around a pen for so long.
