Donald Trump’s loyal supporters are learning some pretty hard truths about their hero, the biggest being that he duped them for the last year and a half.
When President Obama and his diplomatic team struck a major deal with Iran preventing them from developing nuclear weapons in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions, the world sighed in relief.
But Donald Trump and Republicans threw a hissy fit because they would apparently rather go to war with Iran instead of making progress through diplomatic channels.
Trump has called the deal “disastrous” and promised to tear it apart and renegotiate it because he thinks our country can easily brow-beat the Iranians into agreeing to whatever deal we want.
But now that the election is over and he has spoken to President Obama, it appears Trump is rethinking many of his campaign promises.
For instance, not only is Trump backing away from his promise to put Hillary Clinton in jail, he has reversed himself on repealing Obamacare.
Now he is reversing his previous promise to dismantle the Iran deal.
Trump foreign policy adviser Walid Phares told the BBC on Thursday that Trump will simply review the deal which he has apparently not read even though he has spent months demonizing it.
“Ripping up is maybe a too strong of word, he’s gonna take that agreement, it’s been done before in international context, and then review it,” Phares said according to the Times of Israel.
Of course, if Trump did rip the deal up it would give Iranian hardliners exactly what they want because they think the deal is too strong in favor of the United States. So far, Iran has taken many steps to honor the deal and has put the brakes on their nuclear development and handed over much of the stockpile of centrifuges and uranium they built up during the Bush Administration.
So keeping the deal in place makes sense and Trump would be wise to do just that.
Trump also signaled that he may not move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem either because doing so would inflame tensions in the Middle East.
But, as usual, his supporters are crying foul.
It all started when Mark Levin shared the news of Trump’s about-face on Twitter.

How’s it feel knowing you got duped, conservatives? Because I know I’m laughing my ass off right now.
