If it’s not clear to him by now, Donald Trump definitely messed with the wrong family.
Ever since the Republican nominee began attacking the family of Captain Humayun Khan, the American solider who sacrificed his life to save his brothers-in-arms, he has received bipartisan condemnation.
And on Monday night, Late Show host Stephen Colbert chimed in as well.
Colbert dedicated his “The Werd” segment entirely to ripping Trump a new one.
In response to Trump claiming he has sacrificed things in his life, Colbert pointed out that one of those things is humility and the other is humanity.
“Now, an ordinary candidate, when faced with near-universal condemnation, would stop there,” Colbert said of Trump’s attacks.
But as usual, Donald Trump just attacks more instead of moving on, criticizing Khizr Khan for judging him even though he doesn’t know him.
Colbert, however, has met Donald Trump personally and he had no problem backing Khan up by informing Trump that he is a “D-bag.”
Colbert then noted that every time Donald Trump says something outrageous he tries to make us forget by saying something even worse. “Trump’s made us forget about the crazy statements by saying something even crazier,” Colbert said before proceeding to list every crazy statement Trump has made. And it’s true, Trump has escalated his rhetoric every time.
“The next terrible thing always seems to fix the previous terrible thing,” Colbert said. “It’s like the old woman who swallowed a fly, only Trump would never be seen with an old woman.”
Colbert then made a prediction and issued a warning.
“Trump is going to have to say something really outrageous to make us forget these things he’s said about the parents of a fallen soldier. But if he succeeds at making us forget I think he’ll get to say the craziest thing I can imagine. The words “I, Donald Trump, do solemnly swear…” then popped onto the screen.
Here’s the video via YouTube.
Again, Donald Trump is who Republicans picked to be the leader of their party. They should be ashamed of themselves.
