Conservatives cheered and then Fox News shattered their wet dream.
Fox News host Brett Baier scrambled to clarify remarks he made while reporting on alleged investigations of the Clinton Foundation on Wednesday.
During his initial report, Baier claimed that authorities supposedly have enough evidence that will lead to an indictment of Hillary Clinton.
“We talked to two separate sources with intimate knowledge of the FBI investigations,” Baier claimed. “The Clinton Foundation investigation is far more expansive than anybody has reported so far… Several offices separately have been doing their own investigations.”
“They are actively and aggressively pursuing this case,” Baier continued. “The investigations will continue, there is a lot of evidence. And barring some obstruction in some way, they believe they will continue to likely an indictment.”
See, this is why Fox News is known primarily as a propaganda machine that bases their reports on pure speculation and misinformation. There is no way they can actually know what the evidence is or what it will lead towards. And all they have is some anonymous sources, which means nothing. But Brett Baier sent conservatives into a feeding frenzy after saying the I-word and Hillary Clinton in the same report.
It took a whole day, but Baier finally got around to clarifying his remarks on Thursday and instantly derailed the conservative celebration train at the same time.
Baier explained that the he poorly described the process it takes to get an indictment and pointed out that only a prosecutor can actually do that while investigators can’t.
“I want to be clear — I want to be clear about this,” Baier told his viewers.
“I pressed the sources again and again what would happen. I got to the end of that and said, ‘They have a lot of evidence that would likely lead to an indictment.’ But that’s not, that’s inartfully answered. That’s not the process. That’s not how you do it. You have to have a prosecutor. If they don’t move forward with a prosecutor with the DOJ, there would be, I’m told, a very public call for an independent prosecutor to move forward. There is confidence in the evidence, but for me to phrase it like I did, of course that got picked up everywhere, but the process is different than that.”

So conservatives went to bed last night thinking their persecution effort against Hillary Clinton worked. And then they woke up and their whole dream of putting Hillary behind bars crashed and burned just like their hopes for a Trump presidency.
However, Baier’s report was totally irresponsible and violated journalistic ethics, a term that is certainly foreign to him. His words emboldened Trump supporters to continue calling for Hillary to be jailed and his reversal will cause those same Trump supporters to accuse Baier of being part of the “rigged” election conspiracy against their candidate. Seriously, Fox News really stepped in a big pile this time.
