Five Dallas police officers were shot and killed on Thursday night by a lone gunman who was unaffiliated with Black Lives Matter, but the facts didn’t matter to Glenn Beck’s employee Tomi Lahren.
Like former congressman Joe Walsh, Lahren posted a tweet complete with racist rhetoric directed at Black Lives Matter in which she dubs the movement the “new KKK.”
“Meet the new KKK, they call themselves ‘Black Lives Matter’ but make no mistake their goals are far from equality. #Dallas #bluelivesmatter,” she wrote and later deleted although she still stands by her words.
The Ku Klux Klan is a hate group that is responsible for the deaths of many African-Americans in this country’s history. They enforced Jim Crow laws throughout the South after the Civil War and lynched and terrorized black people. The Black Lives Matter movement, on the other hand, is a nonviolent protest of the systemic racism in some police departments and the unjust killing of unarmed black men who did nothing to justify being shot or brutalized by police officers.
Comparing Black Lives Matter to the KKK only inflames hatred toward black people, which is irresponsible considering the massacre that could have occurred at a BLM rally in Portland, Oregon had the white right-wing gunman had not lost his nerve after pulling his gun on the protesters.
Nevertheless, Lahren thinks she should have the opportunity on every news channel to defend her outrageous tweet “As I’ve asked to do on many of the platforms that have said I went too far.”
Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawik concurred with the other news channels that Lahren did “go too far” by calling BLM the “new KKK” and blasted her for it.
“That’s really reckless, that kind of tweet at the situation we’re in,” Zurawik said. “As a journalist, what you did appalls me. That’s the end of it.”
And, of course, Lahren did what most conservatives do when being righteously shut down by playing the victim.
I’m not a journalist, I’m a commentator,” she complained. “I’m allowed to have my feelings and my opinions and I stand behind the things that I say because the thing that hurts people the most is when you’re honest, when you look at something from an honest lens from your perspective and you bring that forth, you are immediately labeled for it and you are immediately criticized. And what those on the other side want to do is criticize, label and silence those who disagree with them. I don’t play that game.
Says the hypocrite who literally labeled Black Lives Matter the “new KKK” and would love nothing more than to silence them from speaking out against police brutality. It should also be pointed out that the KKK went to Ferguson, Missouri during the protests there and threatened to kill black protesters. Also, some members of the Ferguson police were outed as KKK members. So Lahren should really stop and think before she tries to compare BLM to the KKK.

Black Lives Matter had nothing to do with these police officers getting killed. The fault lies with the shooter and the shooter alone. Micah Xavier Johnson was not affiliated with Black Lives Matter. In fact, he didn’t like the BLM movement. But people like Lahren would rather ignore the facts in order to push their racist agenda forward.
