The wife of a Boston police officer is facing charges after she was busted staging a robbery and framing Black Lives Matter activists for the fake crime.
On Oct. 17, Maria Daly called the police to report that her house in Millbury had been burglarized. She claimed that money and $10,000 worth of jewelry had been stolen from her home. She also told authorities that the robbers had spray painted “BLM” on the side of her house.
Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy said that he knew something was fishy about her story right from the start.
Something wasn’t quite right. I think that was pretty obvious and as a result of that investigation, the officers did their due diligence and followed through with the investigation that we had.
Apparently, Daly thought her bogus tale would be more believable if she spread it around a little. Because nothing says “true story” like Facebook. She wrote the following post not long after the made up robbery:
We woke up to not only our house being robbed while we were sleeping, but to see this hatred for no reason.
If you would of [sic] asked me yesterday about this blue lives and black lives matter issue my response would of [sic] been very possitive [sic]. Today on the other hand I have so much anger and hate that I don’t like myself. This is what we have to deal with these days and it makes me sick that this is what was on the side of my house.
Too bad Daly was full of sh*t and she was never robbed at all, she made up the whole thing.

But fortunately, Daly didn’t manage to fool the authorities. “Basically, we came to the conclusion that it was all fabricated,” said Desorcy. “There was no intruder, there was no burglary.”
Police were able to figure out that she faked the robbery due to financial troubles. Eventually, Daly confessed and returned the items that she had claimed were stolen in the burglary.
“We weren’t going to sweep this under the rug,” Desorcy said, even if he did feel sorry for the family.
The woman’s husband, Dan Daly, is not thought to have been an active participant in his wife’s scheme.

April has studied political science, psychology, and philosophy. Back in the good old days she was a reporter for “old fashioned” print newspapers. In addition to news and politics, she also blogs about service dogs and disability advocacy. As a black woman with a disability, she is fed up with the right-wingers who would prefer that she and others like her didn’t exist.
